1- Is the Turing test a valid test of intelligence? Why or why not?
No it does not because machines cannot think. The answers machines give can be constructed by retrieving information stored by humans. The machine would only imitate, but not really think on its own accord. The Turing test just shows how a computer can imitate human intelligence.
2- List several mental tasks that people do better than computers. List several mental tasks that computers do better than people. Can you find any general characteristics that distinguish the items on the two lists?
Computers have greater accuracy of answering mathematical formulas, questions, problems... than human because it requires proven, factual, logical answers quicker and more efficient than a human.
Humans can think.
Humans can hold emotions.
The difference between their abilities is that humans have a more intellectual tasks that allow them not to only give out facts, like computers do, but to reason and analyze, tasks computers cannot perform.

Ch.14 Review Questions (4/25)
7. Why is structured programming so widely practiced today by software developers?
Structured programming produces programs with few logic errors.
8. Why are so many computer languages in use today?
They are easier to work with than either machine or assembly language. They can be transported between computers with a minimum of rewriting.
11. What is the relationship between computer science and computer programming?
Computer science focuses on the process of computering through several areas of specialization, including theory, algorithms, data structures, programming concepts and languages, computer architecture, management information systems, artificial intelligence, and software engineering.
12. Give examples of several different kinds of computer errors, and describe how these errors affect people.
Software reliability is a problem within computer programming. There is no assurance that software will manufacture without failure or without existing bugs. Software do not guarantee the ability to program without errors. Bugs can infect computers can create mistakes in the programming codes and thus faltering the initial intent of the program.

Discussion Question 4/13
If someone discovers a cure for the common cold, should he or she hide it to protect the jobs of all the people who work in the huge cold-medicine industry?
Identify reasons why so many people react negatively to advances in technology that eliminates some jobs.
No. If someone did that it would then show capitalism at its best. People would only do that with only money in mind rather than people. According to the CDC, about 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of flu. Those 36,000 lives could be saved if there were a cure.
Advances in technology create new jobs while eliminating jobs many as well. With advances in technology we can see the number of jobs lost rather than the number of jobs that could be created. People react more negatively than positively because of money. They see that jobs may be lost and thus leaving many without jobs and effecting the economy. I think because we live in a capitalistic society, people naturally think ogf how issues will affect money.
